The Commission on the Status of Women San Diego facilitated the "Break the Cycle" Forum on October 22, 2014 at the County Administration Building. A panel of five experts discussed domestic violence as it relates to the legal system and local organizations and resources. The event was considered very successful and had good attendance.
Supervisor Greg Cox opened the forum with remarks about the importance of ending the cycle of domestic violence. Members of the panel included Debra Zanders-Willis, Director – County of San Diego HHSA Child Welfare Services, Stephen Marquardt, Deputy District Attorney – Family Protection Services, Pam Wright, LCSW Clinical Director - South Bay Community Services, Kathie Lembo, CEO & President – South Bay Community Services, and Casey Gwinn, Esq., President – National Family Center Justice Alliance. They are all leaders in the field who have considerable experience working with individuals affected by domestic violence. Panel questions were facilitated by Jenni Prisk, Chairwoman of the Commission on the Status of Women San Diego.
The panelists discussed information and statistics about, and their involvement with, domestic violence. DV is a pattern of abusive behavior in a relationship, used to control and maintain power, affecting the partner, family, and children. Unfortunately, many domestic violence perpetrators were victims themselves.
